Sunday School Life Groups

Sunday School Life Groups consist of a small group of genuine friends experiencing life-changing Bible Study together, while they engage in a lifestyle of reaching and serving others for Jesus Christ. Our Sunday School is organized to meet life needs of all age groups, babies through senior adults, using settings and learning methods appropriate for each developmental level. These small groups are the fundamental beginning place for connecting believers with the work of the Great Commission and Great Commandment. It is an entry point for unbelievers and new believers and is foundational for all believers to mature as they study God's Word and learn to serve.

Life Groups are the basic building blocks of the church's work in Evangelism/Missions, Ministry, and Fellowship. Life Groups may be organized around family groupings, demographics, geography, age, marital status, or felt need. Ideally, these groups are 7-20 persons in size. Each group is lead by a Life Group Shepherd. All Amelia Baptist Church members and regular attenders are encouraged to be active in a Sunday School Life Group.

Each Life Group meets regularly for Bible Study and builds ongoing relationships with class members and prospective class members. The church leadership will help each group implement a plan for ongoing outreach, ministry, and fellowship.

Evangelism/Missions: The Great Commission teaches us that we are to go into all the world and make disciples. The word "go" in the Great Commission would correctly read: "as you are going." It is each Christian's responsibility to tell the whole world of Christ's coming, his death on the cross, his resurrection, and his promise to return again. The Life Group can work together and be more effective in outreach than if the responsibility is carried by only one or two people.

Sunday School Life Groups are designed to assist members and prospective members in their spiritual walk with Christ.  As a small group, the members work together with the small group leader and teacher to encourage and strengthen one another in their faith. Each Sunday School Life Group can pray, plan and work at leading their friends and acquaintances to Christ through ministry and fellowship events. Members of each group will also be presented with opportunities to participate in local and international mission work.

Ministry: Sunday School exists to minister to people. Ministry is demonstrating God's love to others by meeting needs and healing hurts in the name of Jesus. Each time you reach out in love to others you are ministering to them. The church is to minister to all kinds of needs: spiritual, emotional, relational and physical. Jesus said that even a cup of water given in His name was considered as ministry and would not go un-rewarded. Your Sunday School Life Group is intended to be a loving, caring family.

Your Life Group is more than a group of individuals. It is a vital part of the body of Christ that strengthens members toward spiritual health and maturity.

Fellowship: The Life Group should focus on fellowship within our church. Fellowship is a joining together in common purpose as Christians. It is a unity of Christians that crosses all cultural, socioeconomic and physical barriers. It carries the sense of mutual willingness for self-sacrifice for the good and care of each other. Biblical fellowship with others makes us more able to resist temptation, and motivates and enables us to live more like Christ. As Christians we are called not just to believe, but to belong. Fellowship is more than an occasional party; it is the development of friendships in small intimate groups that helps to bring everyone into a personal relationship with each other and Christ. In the small Sunday School Life Group it is easy to maintain that personal touch naturally, without feeling overwhelmed.

Bible Study: We believe that the Bible is inspired by God and that we are to take time to study its truths and apply them to our lives. Obviously, Bible study is central to the growth of an individual Christian. Each Life Group should focus on the study of God's Word. This is accomplished through ongoing small-group study as well as personal Bible study with the purpose of guiding one another toward conversion, maturity, and ministry. Additionally, this Sunday School Life Group provides both support and accountability.
